Henna Aftercare
Hey, Beauty!
Thank you for choosing Bodi by Samirah for your henna experience!
Beautiful henna begins with high-quality, fresh, natural paste—and you've already taken the first step by booking with me. Proper aftercare is the key to achieving a rich, long-lasting stain, so follow these simple tips to help your design develop beautifully.
Henna paste should remain on your skin for 4–6 hours, but leaving it on for up to 12 hours will typically produce a darker stain. While leaving the paste on longer won't hurt your skin, your henna does need exposure to air to complete the oxidation process.
Once the paste is removed, your stain will continue to develop over the next 24–48 hours. Don't be surprised if it appears light orange or pumpkin-colored at first—that's completely normal! As it oxidizes, your design will deepen into a beautiful reddish-brown.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I wash the paste off?
No. Avoid using water to remove your henna paste.
Instead, gently scrape away the dried paste using a business card, the edge of a spoon, or another firm object.
If small pieces remain, massage a natural plant-based oil (such as olive, coconut, or jojoba oil) into the area and gently wipe away the remaining paste with a dry paper towel or tissue.
How can I make my stain last longer?
For the deepest, longest-lasting stain:
• Keep your henna warm and dry during the first 24 hours after paste removal.
• Before your design comes into contact with water, apply a thin layer of natural plant-based oil or a henna aftercare balm to help protect the stain.
• Moisturize regularly, as hydrated skin helps your design stay vibrant longer.
• Avoid excessive exfoliation, swimming, hot tubs, and long hot showers whenever possible.
How long will my henna last?
Most natural henna stains last 10–14 days, depending on:
• Placement on the body
• Your skin type
• Daily activities
• Aftercare
Areas with thicker skin, such as the palms of your hands and soles of your feet, generally produce the darkest and longest-lasting stains.
Jagua Aftercare
The instructions above apply to natural red henna.
If your design was created using Jagua Gel, please follow these instructions instead:
• Leave the Jagua gel on your skin for at least 2 hours.
• After two hours, wash the gel off completely using soap and warm water.
• Don't worry if it looks like your design disappeared after washing—it hasn't!
Just like henna, Jagua continues developing beneath the skin and will darken significantly over the next 24–48 hours, revealing its beautiful deep blue-black stain.
Henna Myths
Myth #1: "My henna should be dark immediately."
False!
Freshly removed henna is usually bright orange or pumpkin-colored. Your stain will naturally darken over the next 24–48 hours as it oxidizes.
Myth #2: "Leaving the paste on for days will make it darker."
Not necessarily.
Leaving your paste on for 4–12 hours is ideal. After that, your stain develops through oxidation, so your skin needs exposure to air for the process to continue.
Myth #3: "Natural henna is black."
False.
Natural henna stains range from orange to deep reddish-brown. If someone is offering "black henna," it often contains chemical additives that can cause serious skin irritation or allergic reactions. At Bodi by Samirah, only high-quality natural henna and Jagua Gel are used.
Myth #4: "Everyone gets the same stain."
No two stains are exactly alike!
Henna develops differently on every person. Your final stain depends on:
• Placement on the body
• Body temperature
• Skin chemistry
• Aftercare
• How long the paste remains on the skin
Your stain is as unique as you are.
Myth #5: "Henna damages your skin."
Natural henna should never damage healthy skin.
When made with quality ingredients and applied correctly, natural henna temporarily stains the outer layer of the skin and gradually fades as your skin naturally renews itself.

If you can, schedule your henna appointment two days before your special event. That gives your stain time to fully develop into its richest, most beautiful color.
